This is the most commonly specified mid-range landscape lighting lamp — offering enough output for single-fixture tree uplighting, accent wall washing, and garden feature illumination at 6–12 feet throw distance, while the narrower beam compared to the 60-degree wide flood maintains better punch and definition on the target surface.

The 40-degree beam angle hits the sweet spot between the excessive spread of a wide flood (where the beam becomes too diffuse at close range) and the tight hotspot of a spot beam (which creates uneven illumination on organic shapes).
